Situated just 45 minutes from San Antonio or Austin, the beautiful blue waters of Canyon Lake are the gem of Texas Hill Country. Our peaceful oasis provides the opportunity for secluded paddle board and pedal boat escapes on a spring-fed creek with whitetail & axis deer, foxes and roadrunners wandering through. Lodging units include a mixture of tiny homes & campers that will sleep up to 8 people. Tent campers will find camp bathrooms with private outdoor showers. For those with the need for speed we offer pontoon and jet ski rental a short drive away, this is out on the main body of the lake.
History of Canyon Lake:
The US Army Corp of Engineers completed construction of our 8200-acre lake in 1964. In 2002 record flooding above Canyon Lake resulted in the water going over the spillway and creating the Canyon Lake Gorge. This was the only time that our lake showed off its entire 93 miles of shoreline at a flood elevation that exceeded 948 feet above sea level. And, it was the only time that our little campground was waterfront on Canyon Lake. Because of this flood, Army Corp of Engineers rules specify we cannot let anyone camp below 948 feet above sea level, hence our name. The good news is this means we have some wonderful wild space to enjoy while awake. We hope that you will take time for an evening creek-side fire below the 948 or maybe wake up early for yoga classes or fishing. EL948 is a dog friendly park, but we are also still under construction so please verify with us whether your unit has a fully fenced dog run. EL948 works closely with a local ride provider for concerts, special events, and wine tours.
